I am a Gaulier trained physical performer originally from Cape Town, South Africa, where I started my theatre training by completing a 4 year Bachelor of Arts degree at Rhodes University, Grahamstown in acting, mime, physical theatre, choreography and dance.
In 2004 I moved to the UK, eventually making Leeds my home. As a freelance performer and theatre-maker, I tour my own solo shows while working with a number of theatre companies and organisations across the UK and Europe. The work I create focuses specifically on collaborative ensemble theatre, puppetry, mask and clown with an emphasis on non-verbal storytelling.
Some of the companies I've worked for include Tell Tale Hearts (LBT Huddersfield), Libellule Theatre (Halifax), Sheffield Theatres (Sheffield), CAST (Doncaster), M6 Theatre (Rochdale), Red Ladder (Leeds), Slung Low (Leeds), Assitej (South Africa), Vamos Theatre (Worcester), Theatre Company Blah Blah Blah (Leeds), and Action Transport Theatre (Ellsemere Port).
Alongside clown, mask and puppetry, I also work with mixed media including video projection, stop-motion animation, and shadow puppetry and facilitate workshops for all ages on clown, mask, puppetry, and devising theatre. More recently I have started collaborating with companies and individuals as a clown and comedy consultant and dramaturg.

"She is a brilliant performer and a very funny natural comic, a rare find in a female performer. She would be an asset to any company wanting to make strong new work, particularly theatre which involves clowning, mask or puppetry.”
- Nina Hajiyianni, Artistic Director Action Transport Theatre
"Subtly subversive and visually arresting, this show is a deftly choreographed reminder of how universally enjoyable and effective good physical theatre can be" - The Stage
" Simone is not only a fantastically skilled physical performer and puppeteer, but also is incredible fun to work with. She is also a great deviser and loves improvising whilst also being able to keep to a tight choreographed scene and keep it fresh!
- Natasha Holmes, Artistic Director, Tell Tale Hearts Theatre Company
